Our Original Letter Regarding COVID-19

We are working on responding accordingly and appropriately.

IMPORTANT UPDATE (Updated 4/10/20)

Dear family of Rock Creek Church. As many of you are aware by now, COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has continued to spread throughout the United States and is now present in Boulder County. Governor Jared Polis has declared a state of emergency in Colorado and has asked faith based communities limit their gatherings, specifically those participants who are above the age of sixty. After much time pondering, discussing and in prayer over the COVID-19 outbreak, the leadership of Rock Creek Church felt it necessary to cancel all public gatherings at RCC effective immediately and lasting indefinitely. The seriousness of this epidemic is clear. Based on the information we have gathered and per the advice we have received from the Governor, CDC, Converge Worldwide (our Church Network), BVSD, and the city of Boulder, we believe we are in the early, not later, stages of this spread and it will grow worse before it gets better. We know that this news generates a variety of questions and concerns regarding the next steps for our church. With the state and self-induced regulations, we will be doing community a little differently for the next few weeks.

“Flatten the Curve”

We want to be part of “flattening the curve” of infections and protecting the health care system from being overwhelmed. The number of hospital beds, respirators, and health care providers is finite. It is possible that there will be more needing acute medical care than we have resources to care for. We are doing our part to avoid that. More information can be seen at this website: flattenthecurve.com. We cannot stop this virus in its tracks but it is within our ability to slow its advance and ensure all those who need more comprehensive medical attention will find that hospital resources are not overwhelmed but available.

FAITH conquers FEAR

The goal of the enemy is to put fear into our hearts, but we must remember that Christ has CONQUERED fear! Fear has no place here with us because of what Christ did on the cross. Our cities, our nation, and our communities need a church that is not ruled by fear, but by faith. We trust that God is in complete control. Through this next season, we have the opportunity to trust God and lean into our community of faith. “Trust in THE LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT.

Our Sunday Gatherings will be put on hold for the next few weeks. In light of the situation, our Rock Creek Church Team has put together an online alternative to our large corporate gatherings. These will be available through our website posted on Sunday mornings, with worship led by Alex, and a relevant Biblical message from a member of our teaching team. As you feel comfortable, we encourage you to gather with your family, and enjoy the Online Sunday Experience together. Let’s be mindful to continue to pray for one another, pray for our city, pray for our nation, and pray for our world.

Be sure to stay tuned for our online Sunday Experience this weekend. It will be posted on our website at 10am.

Don’t be shy, feel free to take communion together in your home as a family. If you are a parent and would like further help with this, CLICK HERE for a great article to walk you through it. Round up some bread or crackers and some juice and read the scriptures (see below). Have fun with this. Involve your kids in all aspects. Have them help you pick out and prepare the elements, read scripture and pray. This is an incredible opportunity for discipling your kids and seeing their faith grow. Isaiah 53:5, John 6:33, John 6:35, 1 Peter 3:18, Luke 22:19-20, Matthew 26:26-28, John 6:48-51, Acts 2:42-46.

We ask that you continue to give generously through our website. There is an instructional video and a "GIVE ONLINE" button to complete the quick and easy process. Thank you for your continued giving during this difficult time.

We will be providing an at-home lesson for your children available Sunday mornings on our BASECAMP page. This Bible lesson will include a reading, video and color page for your younger kiddos. Think of it this way, you might learn a thing or two from the lesson and your kids?!

We know you do not want to be a “burden” or create extra “work” for the church. Now that we’ve addressed that notion, PLEASE let us help you. We are young and can rebound quickly! Ok, some are younger than others. Nevertheless, we want to BE the church and help care for you. This can look different for everyone. We can go grocery shopping for you and drop them off at your door, we can run errands for you, we can take you to appointments, help you with general maintenance at your home, shovel snow, etc. You need not put yourself at risk, and we are here to help. When you choose to give us the privilege and honor of serving you during this time, please email Pastor Miranda Hansen and she will coordinate with others to make it happen. Thank you in advance for giving us this serving opportunity.

Our entire campus and all in-person ministries are closed indefinitely, effectively immediately. All meetings (groups and/or one-on-ones) will be unable to gather at our church building or any other locations. Until further notice, we will be moving as many of our ministries ONLINE as possible, including Sunday Gatherings, Axis, The Vine, Thrive, Rooted, BASECAMP, LIFE|groups and others. You can find ALL of our online ministries at rockcreekchurch.org/online.

We do encourage you to stay connected with various platforms. These include text messages, phone calls, FaceTime, social media, Skype, WebEx, etc. We are limited on how we can gather in person, but our community is strong and it will continue.

We will be communicating all of our announcements through email, website, and social media. If you are not signed up to receive the weekly email or not following us on social media, please CLICK HERE. Please pay close attention to these different avenues for any further changes for our church.

Finally, we ask that each person who calls Rock Creek Church home unite in prayer, for our church family, our nation, the world, and The Kingdom of God. Now is the time to rise up in prayer, to be a praying church laying our lives before God. I believe that for all the trauma and sorrow this virus has caused, it may well reveal the best in our people and world as we rise up to serve, love, and help one another.

God bless you dear friends,

Pastor Brian

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.” Psalm 91:1-6; 11-12; 15.
